Cosmetic Surgery increased by 5% in 2011 according the the American Society of Plastic Surgery. This includes a total of 13.8 million cosmetic and plastic surgery procedures combined.
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) announced that the total number of cosmetic treatments performed on women was 8.4 million while men accounted for 800,000 procedures. Regardless of the source, cosmetic surgery saw an increase last year.
The top five surgical procedures in 2011 according to the ASAPS were:
Liposuction
Breast augmentation
Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
Eyelid surgery
Breast lift
In 2011, the top five minimally invasive procedures according to the ASAPS were:
Botulinum toxin type A
Hyaluronic acid-based fillers (for treatment of wrinkles)
Laser hair removal
Microdermabrasion
Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments (for treatment of skin redness and uneven skin tone)
