1. Please tell our blog readers what drew you to a career in aesthetics.
It was my own aesthetician that sparked my interest in becoming an aesthetician myself. I loved the changes she made in my skin, and I also enjoyed how relaxed and positive I felt after getting a treatment. I considered it somewhat therapeutic, and always had a more positive outlook just from taking care of my skin and knowing that it was healthier and looked better. I wanted to replicate my experience and share it with others so they, too, could feel healthy, optimistic and project a better sense of self to the rest of the world.
So with that, I enrolled in school and got my Aesthetician license. I have been involved in the aesthetic field in a variety of ways, but found my niche with the medical aspect of skin care. Using modalities like lasers, radiofrequency and ultrasound became fascinating to me. The changes in the skin are so transformative and the overall health benefits to the skin are staggering. I have worked with some knowledgeable educators and physicians, and look forward to expanding my knowledge and career with the amazing providers at Southern Surgical Arts.
2. What is your absolute favorite procedure/treatment to do and why?
I love the results of infusing scattered light into the dermis of the skin. It is commonly called BBL or IPL. It can be used on most skin types and helps remove the overall damage caused by environmental factors and general aging. Not only does it help with color balance of the skin, but it can improve texture, pore size and softening of lines and wrinkles. It has also been proven to change gene expression, which is where your skin actually becomes younger–and that is amazing!
3. What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about cosmetic treatments?
Oh my! I can honestly say the biggest misconceptions about cosmetic treatments is that there is a cream out there that is going to fix everything! To begin with, the FDA has no restrictions on what a company can say their product does in this market. It is pretty much a free-for-all. That is why it is so important to use the medical- grade products which have to perform to a standard that is proven to be effective. It is not only about what is in the medical grade products, but the amounts of effective ingredients that will make an impact. There is so much research that go into these products, and that is why they are proven to work. So don’t look for a miracle in a bottle, but do use good products that will help you reach your overall skincare goals.
4. Please tell blog readers about your hobbies/personal details you want to share.
I have loved horses since birth I believe! I love to ride every chance I get. Being outside in the mountains on a horse is some of the best therapy I can imagine. I like being outside in general, and busying myself with living. I adore my friends and family and the amazing time we spend together. I spend much of my time with my dog, Ben. If it is dog-friendly, he is there with me. I take him everywhere, and my friends tolerate it well! I have an affinity for travel. I love to go places. It doesn’t matter if it is beach, mountains or desert…I want to go! I enjoy anything that helps me grow. I enjoy the process of bettering myself. Life is fascinating!
5. What do you think makes Southern Surgical Arts special?
Southern Surgical Arts is the pinnacle of cutting-edge aesthetic treatments. They have opened their facility to modality research to determine the efficacy of the newer devices on the market. Other companies turn to SSA for input about effective devices on the market. There is no other medical spa that offers the most varied and up-to-date lasers in all of Chattanooga. The surgeons and staff are trained above and beyond to provide the optimal results of any surgery or treatment one might choose. SSA is growing and I am thrilled to be part of such a professional establishment that chooses knowledge as their tool for growth.
